When I was preparing to move to the Residency in 2018, I was asked, “Why are you moving to Scottsbluff, when you’ve lived in Colorado your entire life?” At the time, I was looking for a life-care facility that I could afford and wouldn’t have to relocate numerous times. I had researched the Denver area and the front range, but nothing was satisfactory or affordable. It was suggested I try Scottsbluff, so I got out the map, charted my route to Scottsbluff, and called my niece in Gering to help me find a home. The first place we visited was the Residency. Not only was I pleased with the appearance of the facility, both interior and exterior, but their philosophy for the concept of Life Care was a major selling point. The buy-in was costly, but it was an investment into my future. More importantly, in the long run, it was the most cost effective choice for me, considering the ever-increasing expense of nursing home care. In addition, since I had no family members to assume the role in decision making for my future long-term care, it was reassuring to learn a team of members from Healthcare and Management would recommend the necessary change in residency status according to my needs. And so, what do I like about the Residency? The list is long, but the most important is the sense of family and community. Yes, the amenities are a plus, and knowing you belong to a very special group who care about your welfare, is priceless. In summary, I am grateful to the little voice that told me to go to Scottsbluff, and I’m proud to have found a home with loving, caring people.

I really enjoy living at The Residency. I no longer have the responsibility of a house and yard, and my kids don’t have to worry about me out scooping snow or lifting something I shouldn’t. I no longer have the main risks of falling or hurting myself. I’m in a safe and secure environment. I don’t have to cook or clean and have lots of friends to do fun stuff with. You can be as involved, or as private as you wish to be. How much better does it get!

My husband and I love living at the Residency! I had 80 new friends the day I moved in, or maybe more. I love not shopping, cooking. I love not cleaning my apartment. We eat in the dining room every evening, and that is our favorite part of the day. We eat with different people every night, and have gotten to know so many people.

About 12 years ago I made a smart decision, to invest in LIFE CARE at Northfield Community. I started in a beautiful apartment living independently, and I have now transitioned into a lovely room at the Med Center, where a caring staff makes me feel special and safe every day. I have never regretted this excellent decision.

We had talked about down sizing for several months. After attending an open house at the Residency, we made the decision to move here. We enjoy dining with our new friends. This was a great decision. Life is easier here with meals prepared for us, no yard work. We were able to bring our small dogs!
